Frequently asked questions
How is the split calculated?
Every question has a fixed weight. Single-choice questions (who is CEO, who had the idea, who pitches investors, full-time status, prior founder experience) give that whole weight to the selected founder. Slider questions split their weight across founders in proportion to the slider values. Each founder’s points are added up and shown as a percentage of the total.
Is this legal or financial advice?
No. It is a structured starting point for a founder conversation. Confirm any actual equity grant, vesting schedule and cap table with a startup lawyer before issuing shares.
What if all founders should be equal?
Answer the questions honestly; if contributions really are symmetric the calculator will return a near-even split. Many teams still choose to round to an equal split — the value here is surfacing where contributions differ before you decide.
Can I change my answers?
Yes. Adjust any checkbox or slider and the split updates live. Use "Manage co-founders" to add or rename founders without losing your other answers.
