Free MVP risk tool

Assumption Mapper

Rank desirability, feasibility and viability assumptions by importance and evidence to identify the riskiest belief to test first.

  • Uses your inputs in a transparent calculation
  • Instant result with practical next steps

Planning guidance only. Validate important decisions with customer evidence and your delivery team.

How it works

1

Classify each belief

Desirability covers customer behaviour, feasibility covers delivery, and viability covers sustainable economics or operations.

2

Rate importance and evidence

Score each assumption 1–5 on how critical it is and how much evidence already supports it.

3

Get a ranked test backlog

Risk equals importance multiplied by the inverse of evidence — the highest-risk assumptions become the priority order to test.

Frequently asked questions

What is an MVP assumption?

It is a belief that must be true for the product or business model to work but is not yet fully supported by evidence.

How is risk calculated?

Importance from 1–5 is multiplied by 6 minus evidence from 1–5, then multiplied by four to produce a 4–100 score.

Is a high-risk assumption bad?

Not necessarily. It means the assumption is important and weakly evidenced, so learning about it has high value.

What test should come next?

Choose the fastest ethical test that can materially strengthen or weaken the top assumption — such as interviews, a landing-page behaviour test, paid pilot or technical spike.
