Classify each field/step by necessity
Anything marked not required for the transaction to complete is flagged as a candidate for removal or deferral — the classic MVP checkout mistake is asking for data "just in case" it's useful later.
Free lean checkout design tool
List every field and step in your checkout flow and get each one scored as essential, questionable, or removable — so your MVP checkout stays as short as it can honestly be.

Planning score
Anything marked not required for the transaction to complete is flagged as a candidate for removal or deferral — the classic MVP checkout mistake is asking for data "just in case" it's useful later.
The ratio of required to total fields/steps becomes your leanness score — a checkout closer to only-the-essentials scores higher.
Non-essential items are split into "remove entirely" (adds no value) versus "defer to post-purchase" (useful, but not worth blocking the sale for) based on common patterns like account creation and marketing opt-ins.
Guest checkout with an optional "create an account" offer after purchase completes tends to convert better than forcing account creation upfront — the tool flags mandatory account creation as removable by default.
Mark those as required if the order genuinely can't be fulfilled without them (like a shipping address for physical goods) — the tool only flags items that don't block the actual transaction.
It can stay as a single unchecked checkbox, but it should never be a required field or a separate step — the tool flags it as removable-to-a-checkbox rather than fully cut.
CheckoutSketch trims the purchase/payment flow specifically; SignupTrim trims the account-registration flow, which may or may not be part of the same checkout.
