How it works

1

Enter your color pair

Give the text color, background color, and whether the text is large or normal-sized.

2

Get a real contrast ratio

Contrast Fix calculates the actual WCAG contrast ratio and compares it to the required threshold.

3

Fix and re-test

Adjust the darker or lighter color until it clears the threshold, then re-check every place the pair is used.

Frequently asked questions

What contrast ratio do I need?

WCAG AA requires 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (18pt+, or 14pt+ bold).

Does this check WCAG AAA too?

This tool checks the AA threshold, which is the widely accepted baseline for most products. AAA (7:1) is stricter and typically reserved for critical text.

What if fixing contrast changes my brand color too much?

Small adjustments to lightness usually preserve the hue enough to stay recognizably on-brand — try adjusting in small steps rather than picking an unrelated color.

WebAIM's checker and browser dev tools both calculate accurate WCAG ratios. Contrast Fix adds a usage-count field so you remember to check every place a failing pair appears.
