How it works
-
List your candidate features
Add each feature you are considering for the first release.
-
Rate impact and effort
Score each one 1-5 on user impact and build effort, and flag anything core to the primary user journey.
-
We calculate a priority score
Score = (impact × 3) − (effort × 2). Features flagged core always land in Must-Have regardless of score.
-
Get a sorted MVP scope
Features are grouped into Must-Have, Should-Have, Could-Have and Won't-Have, ranked by score within each group.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the priority score calculated?
Score = (impact × 3) − (effort × 2), where impact and effort are each rated 1-5. Impact is weighted higher because a high-impact, low-effort feature is the best MVP candidate.
What if a feature is core but scores low?
Marking a feature "Core" always places it in Must-Have, overriding the score — some features are structurally required even if their standalone impact score is modest.
How many features should I add?
Most MVPs benefit from 5-15 candidate features. Fewer than that and prioritization is not very useful; many more and the scope is probably too big for a first release.
What's the difference between this and the Feature Cut List tool?
This tool sorts your full feature list into four MVP-scope tiers (Must/Should/Could/Won't). The Feature Cut List instead gives a simple keep-or-cut verdict per feature, plus an estimate of days saved by cutting.
Can I change the impact and effort scale?
The 1-5 scale keeps scoring fast and consistent across a team. Use relative judgement — a 5 should be clearly bigger than a 3, not a precise measurement.
How We Compare
| Feature | MVPHub MVP Scope Builder | Google Sheets | Trello |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic Must/Should/Could/Won't-Have sorting | Included | Limited | Not included |
| Transparent impact/effort scoring formula | Included | Limited | Not included |
| Core-journey override built in | Included | Not included | Not included |
| No spreadsheet formulas or board setup required | Included | Not included | Not included |
Google Sheets and Trello can track a feature list, but sorting it into MVP tiers still takes manual formulas or board rules. MVPHub applies one consistent scoring formula automatically.
