How it works

1

Log every attempt

Each line records one tester’s outcome, time on task and whether they hesitated or backtracked.

2

Classify the outcome

Attempts are split into completed, failed and abandoned, and hesitation is tracked separately as a friction signal.

3

Compute the rates

Completion, failure, hesitation and abandonment rates are calculated as a percentage of total attempts, alongside average time versus your target.

Frequently asked questions

Does Task Test run the usability test for me?

No. You run the session with your own testers (moderated or unmoderated) and paste the outcomes in here — Task Test only calculates the metrics.

What counts as hesitation?

Any moment you observed the tester pause, backtrack, or hover uncertainly before acting. Mark it yes if it happened, regardless of the final outcome.

How many testers do I need?

Five is a reasonable minimum for directional numbers; the tool works with any count, but rates from under five testers should be treated as indicative only.

What is a good completion rate?

There is no universal number, but under 70% completion on a core task is usually worth investigating before you build more on top of that flow.

MVPHub calculates task metrics from session data you already collected. Maze recruits and hosts the live testing sessions themselves; a spreadsheet can hold the same data but needs manual formulas.
