How it works

1

Rate five weighted dimensions

Demand and evidence quality carry the most weight (30% and 25%), followed by willingness to pay (25%), then market barriers and team confidence (10% each) — reflecting that real behavioral signal matters more than confidence alone.

2

Calculate a weighted confidence score

Each 1–5 rating is converted to a percentage and combined using the fixed weights above into one 0–100 validation confidence score.

3

Map the score to a clear recommendation

Scores of 75+ recommend GO, 55–74 REFINE, 35–54 PAUSE, and below 35 PIVOT — with the weakest individual dimension always named as the first thing to address.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between REFINE and PAUSE?

REFINE means the core idea has signal but one dimension needs a targeted follow-up test. PAUSE means the overall evidence is too thin across the board to justify building yet.

Why does demand carry more weight than team confidence?

Team confidence is useful context but is not evidence — it is weighted lowest specifically so gut feeling cannot outvote weak external signals.

Can I use this before every research round, or just at major milestones?

It works best after a defined research sprint or milestone with enough evidence to rate each dimension honestly — using it after one interview will just reflect noise.

What should I do with a PIVOT recommendation?

Revisit your problem statement and target segment rather than tweaking the current solution — a PIVOT score usually means multiple weak dimensions, not one fixable gap.

Is this recommendation binding?

No — it is a transparent, documented starting point for a team decision, not an automated verdict. Use the weakest-dimension note to decide what more evidence would change your mind.

MVPHub applies the same fixed weighting every time so results are comparable across research rounds. A spreadsheet requires you to build and maintain that formula yourself, and ChatGPT can reason about your findings but will not apply a consistent scoring method.
