DECISION-LINKED TRACKING PLAN

Feature Analytics Requirement Builder

Turn a feature's tracking plan into a decision-linked requirement instead of a pile of 'track everything' events nobody will ever query.

  • Uses your inputs in a transparent calculation
  • Instant result with practical next steps
  • No signup required

Planning guidance only. Validate important decisions with customer evidence and your delivery team.

How it works

1

State the decision

Name the feature and the specific decision the analytics should support — not just 'understand usage'.

2

List planned events

Enter how many events you plan to track for this feature.

3

Get a decision-linked score

The tool checks whether your event count is proportionate to how specific your stated decision is.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a decision statement 'vague'?

Short, generic statements like 'see how it's used' don't specify what you'll actually do with the data. A strong statement names the call (keep/expand/sunset) and the threshold that triggers it.

Why does event count matter if more data is usually better?

Every event has an implementation and maintenance cost. Tracking 30 events for a vague decision usually means most of them will never be queried — that's noise, not insight.

How is the score calculated?

Decision clarity (word count plus presence of a decision verb like 'decide' or 'sunset') earns up to 60 points; event count is scored against a cap set by that clarity, up to 40 points. It's transparent arithmetic, not a hidden model.

Is this only for new features?

It works best for features about to ship, where you're defining the tracking plan before implementation — but you can also use it to audit an existing feature's event list.

What should I do if my score is low?

Rewrite the decision statement to be specific first, then cut your event list down to only what that decision needs.
