What counts as 'investigated'?
Any stage where you've asked real customers directly about their pain, needs, or decisions at that point — not assumptions or internal guesses.
Do all three dimensions matter equally?
For most journeys, yes — pain tells you what hurts, needs tell you what would help, and decisions tell you what actually drives behavior. Skipping one leaves a real gap in understanding.
How many stages should a journey have?
There's no fixed number — most MVP-stage journeys map cleanly to 4-7 stages. Fewer than that risks oversimplifying; many more becomes hard to research thoroughly.
Is this the same as a customer journey map?
It's a research-coverage check layered on top of one. Use a full journey map tool for the visual, and this to confirm each stage in it is actually backed by evidence.
