How it works

1

Enter MOQ, demand, and storage cost

Add the supplier's minimum order quantity, your average monthly demand, and storage cost per unit per month.

2

We calculate months of supply and excess cost

The MOQ is divided by monthly demand to estimate coverage, and the average excess inventory held above normal working stock is priced at your storage cost.

3

Get a MOQ-fit score

A score close to 100 means the MOQ closely matches near-term demand; a low score flags a MOQ that creates significant overstock.

Frequently asked questions

How is "months of supply" calculated?

It divides the supplier's minimum order quantity by your average monthly demand — an MOQ of 3,000 units against 1,000 units/month of demand gives 3 months of supply.

How is excess carrying cost estimated?

It estimates the average excess inventory held above one month's normal working stock over the drawdown period, then multiplies by your storage cost per unit per month and the number of months the order covers.

What if my demand varies month to month?

Use your average monthly demand for a directional estimate. For highly seasonal demand, run the calculator separately for peak and off-peak periods.

Is a low MOQ-fit score always bad?

Not necessarily — if storage cost is very low or the product doesn't degrade, a large MOQ may still be economical. Use the excess carrying cost figure alongside the score to judge.

Does this account for volume discounts on the MOQ?

No — this calculator focuses on inventory carrying cost from order size versus demand. Combine it with QuoteMatrix if you also want to weigh price against MOQ and lead time.
